 CARINA CHARLTON

Image of me at work carving an egg I was born in Germany into a family of musicians and myself studied the cello. As a professional musician I lived and worked in the U.K. from 1958-1989 when I returned to live in Germany. Image of an Egg lamp

In 1995 I started my work with ostrich eggs. The idea of using pieces of music and turning them into visual , graphic experiences by carving them into the eggs, grew out of my love for, and involvement with music, and became for many years the main subject of my work with eggs.
In response to enquiries, and previous commissions I now also feature various other subjects, designing each egg individually and free-hand, using the additional techique of engraving, illuminating the engraved eggs by placing a 15 Watt bulb inside them.
My main tool is a high-speed dental drill, using various diamond tips.

I only use ethically sourced, sterile ostrch eggs from licensed farms.
